About

Alara Han is one of the most important Seljuk-era structures in the Alanya area. Located near the Alara River, the caravanserai was commissioned by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I in 1231. Spanning an area of approximately 2,000 m², the structure is built of cut stone.

What Is There to See at Alara Han?

Visitors pass through the caravanserai’s monumental entrance into the interior. In addition to lodging quarters, the structure features a guardhouse, a fountain, a prayer room, and a bathhouse. The two lion heads at the entrance are among the building’s striking architectural details.

Alara Han During the Seljuk Period

Caravanserais were structures used to accommodate travelers and caravans along the major transportation and trade routes of the Seljuk period. Alara Han is also one of the significant examples of the Seljuk heritage in the Alanya region that has survived to the present day.

A Combined Tour with Alara Castle

Perched on a high hill near Alara Han is Alara Castle. Sources from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism also note that the caravanserai and the castle are located in the same region and that the castle occupies a commanding position overlooking the surrounding area.

For this reason, you can combine a visit to Alara Han with Alara Castle and the Alara River to create a broader tour route that encompasses both history and nature.
