About

Among the historic structures of Alanya Castle, the Akşebe Sultan Mosque and Mausoleum is one of the significant monuments that has survived from the Anatolian Seljuk period to the present day. The structure was commissioned in 1230 by Akşebe Sultan, one of the first commanders of Alanya Castle.

The building combines stone and brick. According to information in the official cultural inventory, the structure consists of two main sections. While one section is believed to be the mausoleum, the other is a square-plan space covered by a dome. Near the structure, there are also surviving remains of a historic minaret featuring a rubble-stone base and a brick body.

The Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism’s promotional material on Alanya states that the mosque and mausoleum each have two rooms; one of the rooms serves as the mosque, while the other is the mausoleum housing the tomb of Akşebe Sultan. There are also other graves inside the mausoleum.

The Akşebe Sultan Mosque is located approximately 100 meters past the Süleymaniye Mosque. Therefore, both historic structures can be easily visited along the same walking route.&

During a tour of Alanya Castle, after visiting the Akşebe Sultan Mosque and Mausoleum, nearby historical sites such as the Süleymaniye Mosque, the Bedesten, Ehmedek, and the Inner Castle can also be added to the itinerary.
