Alanya Castle
Alanya Castle, one of Alanya’s iconic landmarks, is one of the city’s most important historical sites not to be missed, featuring its historic walls, the Inner Castle section, a unique view of the Mediterranean, and structures dating from the Seljuk period to the present day.

About
Alanya Castle, one of Alanya’s most significant historical and cultural landmarks, is situated on a historic peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to its naturally protected location, the region has been home to various civilizations throughout history. The history of the first settlement at the castle dates back to the Hellenistic period. However, the Anatolian Seljuk period played a significant role in shaping the castle’s current monumental appearance. During the reign of Alaeddin Keykubad, the castle and the surrounding defensive structures were reinforced; important structures such as the Red Tower and the historic shipyard—which remain among Alanya’s symbols to this day—were built during this period.
With walls stretching approximately 6.5 kilometers in length, nearly 140 towers, and nearly 400 cisterns, Alanya Castle encompasses a vast historical area. The walls connect key points such as the Red Tower, Ehmedek, the Inner Castle, Adam Atacağı, the area around Cilvarda Cape, Tophane, and the Shipyard.
The Inner Castle, located in the higher elevations of the peninsula, is one of the castle’s most striking sections. From this section, which rises to a height of approximately 250 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy views of Alanya’s coastline and the Mediterranean Sea.
Alanya Castle is not merely an area consisting of historical ruins. The coexistence of historic structures and the traditional urban fabric gives the area the character of a living cultural heritage.
Thanks to its historical character and panoramic views, Alanya Castle is one of the key stops that visitors to Alanya should add to their city tour. It is advisable to set aside enough time to explore the castle’s various sections, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring water—especially on hot summer days.
