About

The Aytap Scenic Viewpoint is one of the natural scenic spots located east of Alanya, in the vicinity of the Uğrak neighborhood and the ancient city of Aytap (Iotape). Thanks to its high, rocky terrain along the Mediterranean coast, visitors can enjoy a wide-angle view of the sea, small coves, and the surrounding coastal formations.

Unlike the viewing terraces in downtown Alanya, the natural Mediterranean coastline takes center stage at Aytap rather than the cityscape. This feature makes the area a wonderful stop for those who want to enjoy the scenery, take photos, and explore Alanya’s quieter coastlines.

View of the Mediterranean and Aytap Coves

The most striking feature of the Aytap area is how the mountainous terrain meets the Mediterranean Sea at close range. The small coves formed between rocky headlands and the open-sea view give the area its distinctive character.

On clear days, it’s possible to observe the Mediterranean’s various shades of blue, the rocky formations along the coast, and the natural landscape around Aytap from the viewpoint.

For visitors interested in photography in particular, Aytap offers scenes quite different from the classic city and castle views found in the center of Alanya.

Can Be Visited Together with the Ancient City of Iotape

One of the most important features that makes the Aytap Viewpoint special is its location right next to the historic area where the Ancient City of Iotape is situated.

Iotape is an ancient Cilician coastal city, known today as Aytap. The ruins of the ancient city bear traces of the Roman and Byzantine periods. The acropolis, situated on a high promontory jutting out toward the sea, is one of the region’s most striking features.

Remains of an ancient harbor, bathhouse, temple, basilica, church, and necropolis can be seen in the area. Thus, a visit to Aytap allows you to explore historical ruins and enjoy the Mediterranean scenery along the same route.

Best Time for Photography

The area around Aytap offers different views at different times of the day. In the morning, you’ll find a more peaceful atmosphere and a clear view of the sea.

In the late afternoon, as the sunlight softens, the rocky shores and the sea take on more distinct hues. These hours are particularly ideal for those interested in nature and landscape photography.

Since midday can get quite hot during the summer months, visiting in the morning or late afternoon may be more comfortable.

Things to Keep in Mind During Your Visit

The natural terrain around Aytap is rocky and, in places, steep. It is especially important for visitors planning to walk to the higher parts of the ancient city or toward the shore to wear appropriate footwear.

If stopping along the roadside or at high vantage points to take in the view, be careful of vehicle traffic and cliff edges.

It is advisable to bring a hat and sunscreen for sun protection, and to carry an adequate supply of drinking water, especially during the hot months.

Aytap Tour Route

The Aytap Viewpoint can be enjoyed on its own as a short scenic stop, or it can be incorporated into a more comprehensive tour route that includes a visit to the ancient city of Iotape.

During a trip from Alanya toward Gazipaşa, historical and natural sites in eastern Alanya—such as the Ancient City of Syedra and Aytap—can be included in the same day’s itinerary.

For visitors looking to escape the crowded center of Alanya and see the Mediterranean’s more natural coastline, the Aytap Viewpoint is one of the beautiful stops that can be added to the Viewpoints route.
